Swimming Pool

Harford Community College's pool is available for classes, and is also available to individuals who would like to register for Open / Flex swim time.


Harford Community College's swimming pool is located in the Chesapeake Center attached to the APGFCU Arena.  The pool is a 6-lane indoor lap pool. The pool is 75 feet long (25 yards or 22.86 Meters) and 50 feet wide (16.6 Yards or 15.24 Meters). Pool Water is maintained consistently between 82 and 84 degrees.

ServicesPool Lift

  • The pool is handicap accessible by stairs or lift.
  • A lifeguard is on duty when the pool is open.
  • Full function Men's and Women's locker rooms with 88 lockers and changing area, 4 showers, 4 sinks, mirrors, and bathroom facilities.
  • Family/Private bathroom with a sink, shower bathroom facility, and changing station.


  • Currently Open/Flex swim time is available for enrolled students and faculty.  (Faculty and Students must show their HCC ID to have access.)
  • Other participants may take the Flex Swim course which allows them to use the pool outside of a classroom setting, but with a lifeguard on duty.
  • Open/Flex Swim hours change from session to session.  See the hours below for the current session hours.  Additions to these hours may be posted as some classes using the pool may be canceled due to low enrollment.

Courses Offered in the Swimming Pool

HCC offers courses year-round in our indoor pool.  Courses include swimming courses, aqua fitness, lifeguard training, water aerobics, and Flex Swim courses to accommodate individuals looking for an opportunity to use the pool for exercise with a lifeguard on duty.  Continuing Education courses offered in the Swimming Pool can be viewed using the links below:

These rules, regulations, and policies are for the protection and benefit of patrons to provide safe and sanitary operation.

General Pool Rules:

  1. Persons using the pool do so at their own risk. Harford Community College is not responsible for any accident, injury or illness in connection with such use.
  2. Diving is hazardous and may result in permanent physical injury or death. Do so at your own risk. Backward direction dives and gainers are prohibited.
  3. The pool may be closed if necessary for maintenance.
  4. Pool users are financially responsible for property damage caused.
  5. No bottles, glass, ceramic, or otherwise breakable containers are permitted.
  6. Do not talk to or otherwise distract lifeguards while in guard chair.
  7. Admission may be refused to anyone with open skin abrasions, sores, severe colds or coughs, inflamed eyes, infections, contagious diseases, or wearing bandages, or for other health reasons at the discretion of the administration.
  8. Children who have not outgrown the need for diapers (cloth or disposable) will not be allowed in the pool unless wearing swimsuit diaper undergarments. “Swimmies” are acceptable.
  9. Expectorating (spitting), blowing of nose, water spouting, or urinating in the pool is prohibited. No one shall take, throw, or admit any foreign substance into the pool or on the deck area.
  10. Eating on the deck is prohibited.
  11. In the water, only bathing suits shall be worn. Cutoffs or street clothes are prohibited. T-shirts may be worn at wearer's own risk of becoming entangled or otherwise impaired.
  12. Loud, foul, profane, abusive, or disrespectful language will not be tolerated and is cause for dismissal from the premises.
  13. Soliciting for personal profit is not permitted.
  14. Do not debate regulations nor policy with lifeguards, who are required to enforce regulations, not make policy. Complaints, inquires, or comments regarding regulations or staff performance should be directed to the Harford Community College administration.
  15. Prolonged exposure to swimming pool water may cause skin or eye irritation, or be otherwise uncomfortable or harmful to some individuals. Patrons shall determine if exposure to pool water is harmful to them and shall limit pool use and exposure accordingly.
  16. Although sanitizing agents are maintained in pool water at required levels, there can be a survival time for organisms, bacteria, or viruses. Exposure to pool water may result in infection therefrom. Harford Community College and its employees and administration shall not be responsible for disease or illness contracted while using their facilities.
  17. Harford Community College is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property on the pool deck, in the pool or in the locker rooms. It is advised that if using the locker room to store personal property, that a lock be purchased to fit the lockers.
  18. Abandoned or lost clothing, or personal articles not claimed within five days may be discarded. Mark towels, clothing, and property with your name to aid in timely return. Inventory your belongings before leaving the premises.
  19. Doors between the locker room and pool deck will be locked until five minutes before a class or session is to begin. Please do not bang or knock on the doors.
  20. There will be no swimming in the pool unless a lifeguard is on duty.
  21. Please do not use the pool drains as a means to exit the pool. This means no standing or sitting on them. Also, keep all body parts out of them.
  22. The storage room may be entered by Harford Community College employees ONLY. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  23. No standing on horseplay is allowed on the tables or storage shelves.
  24. No one other than HCC employees are allowed on the guard stands, to use the guard tubes, rescue hook or any other lifesaving equipment, unless otherwise approved.
  25. No running or playing on the pool deck.
  26. A lifeguard or instructor has the right to ask you to leave the pool or the pool deck, even if the allotted class time is not over.
  27. The pool may be closed due to inclement weather at the discrimination of Harford Community College.
  28. In the case of emergency, the pool must be cleared of all swimmers not directly involved in the incident.
  29. In the case of an injury, first aid may be administered by the lifeguard or certified instructor. This may be denied if the person is conscious, but it will be implied that help is needed in the situation of an unconscious victim.
  30. All swimmers must leave the pool and the pool deck promptly after the class is over. Loitering is prohibited.

Open /Flex Swim hours change from session to session.  For upcoming summer session Flex Hours are:

Monday: 11:15am - 12:30pm

Tuesday: 11:15am - 12:30pm
                 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Wednesday: 11:15am - 12:30pm

Thursday: 11:15am - 12:30pm
                  4:00pm - 5:00pm

Friday: 11:15am - 12:30pm
